ART for SOCIAL CHANGE and INNOVATION

Panelists speak about their personal and organizational experiences on how art has been an effective medium for positive social change and innovation.

Opening remarks: Douglas Elmendorf, Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Don K. Price Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.

Performance: Kat Geddes, poet, writer, and a research fellow at Harvard Law School.

​

Moderator: Tim McCarthy, Lecturer of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School of Government (HKS) and the host and director of the A.R.T. of Human Rights.

 

Diane Borger has been the Producer for the American Repertory Theater since 2010. Previously she worked in London at the Royal Court Theater and the National Theater Studio of Great Britain.

 

Chanel DaSilva is an Artist in Residence at the Harvard Dance Center. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of MOVE(NYC), arts organization providing tuition-free dance and leadership instruction for NYC teenagers.

 

Ifeoma Fafunwa is the founding creative director of iOpenEye Ltd, a Nigerian production company driving social change through performance art.  

 

Doris Sommer is a Professor and the Director of the Cultural Agents Initiative at Harvard University.  Her academic and outreach work promotes development through arts and humanities.

 

Cecily Tyler is the founder of Docutribe Inc, a nonprofit organization that seeks to activate social change, and celebrate art and community through filmmaking. She is a 2016 MC/MPA graduate from HKS and is a Research Fellow with the Ash Center at Harvard Kennedy School.
